Meet the Team at Canungra Vet

Our Veterinarians

Canungra Vet Surgery - Dr Wendy Balmain

Dr Wendy Balmain

Veterinarian BVSc

Dr Wendy Balmain graduated from University of Queensland almost 30 years ago. During the course of her career, she has worked across most states of Australia and also in the UK.

Wendy’s passion is the variety that mixed practice brings. She enjoys nothing more than treating your pets in the clinic and then hopping in the car to visit horses, sheep or alpacas in the local area.  At home, Wendy is kept busy with a huge menagerie of dogs, cats, horses, goats and even guinea fowl.

Canungra Vet Surgery - Dr Lily Betzien

Dr Lily Betzien

Veterinarian BVSc

Dr Lily Betzein graduated in 2020 and worked at a rural mixed practice in Mildura for the first 2 years of her career. She moved back home to Queensland and joined us in early 2022.

Lily enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine but has a soft spot for our feline friends.

When she is not at work Lily can be found riding her horses or sitting quietly sewing.

She is owned by her cat Mallee.

Dr Maddy Lansdown

Veterinarian BVSc

Maddy joined the team as a new graduate in 2023 after graduating from University of Queensland. After growing up in Brisbane and then studying out at Gatton, Maddy pursued her dream of living near the ocean and moved to the Gold Coast. Maddy enjoys the variety of work in general practice, with an equal interest in both surgery and medicine. She predominantly works with small animals, however she won’t turn down an opportunity to work with goats, alpacas, sheep or cattle! Maddy also has an interest in shelter medicine and animal rescues, being an avid foster parent and having a rescue dog, cat and chickens of her own. Prior to working with us, Maddy spent a month in the Cooks Islands volunteering as a vet, and she plans to do many more trips like it in the future.
Outside of her veterinary life, you will find Maddy at the beach, camping or growing veggies in her backyard. To mix it up, Maddy loves all things photography and also owns a videography business with her partner.

Dr Erin Fay

New Graduate Veterinarian BVSc

After completing a final year placement with the TMVG in 2024, Erin joined the team in 2025 as a recent University of Queensland graduate.

Although Erin now calls Australia home, she grew up in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. Before chasing her lifelong dream of becoming a Veterinarian, Erin completed a BCOMM degree in South Africa and worked as both a Marketing and Human Resources Manager in the Engineering industry. Since then, she has volunteered, lived, and worked abroad in Nepal, Vietnam, and Hong Kong, before finally settling in Australia.

Erin has a keen interest in all aspects of Veterinary Medicine, but particularly surgery, and feline and large animal medicine!

When off the clock, Erin enjoys running, ticking experiences and adventures off her ever-growing bucket list, and spending time with friends and her main man, Mr. Wombat (the sweetest furry feline).

Canungra Vet Surgery - Rosie

Rosie

Veterinary Nurse
Rosie started working at Canungra Veterinary Surgery in April 2022 after taking 5 years off work to start a family.

Before that Rosie worked as an equine nurse for several years. Rosie’s favourite part about working at the Canungra clinic is the daily variety ranging from horses, cows and goats to puppies and kittens. She is passionate about providing a high standard of care, always learning and giving the animals lots of cuddles.

When not at work you will find Rosie spending time with her family, out competing her horse or looking after her menagerie of animals.

Keris

Kes joined the team in March 2022 as a veterinary nurse. Kes started out as an equine nurse in 2017 and has since worked in a specialist hospital. She has now moved back closer to home working out of our mixed practice clinic in Canungra. At our Canungra clinic she gets the best of both worlds, furthering her passion of working alongside large animals, as well as working with beautiful puppies and kittens. Kes is very passionate about aiming for the highest standards of patient care, ensuring all fur babies in our care are as comfortable and as happy as possible.
